The weather is upside down. It doesn’t know what it is doing. We use to have seasons but they have just merged into a giant mono season that has anything and everything in it. So now we have days that are like summer in January which is supposed to be winter. We get snow at Easter which is supposed to be spring. I struggle, like most busy mums, on a daily bases working out what day of the week it is. Every morning starts with the wonder of what day it is. Then getting all excited when its a different day to what I thought it was. I totally know how to live life on the edge. So not knowing where in the year I am is very confusing.
There is one thing we can really on though to guide us through the year. Our TV favorites that come around each year. Oh, how we love them. They start showing trailers and we all run around whitening about the start dates. We mutter how it doesn’t seem like a year since it was last on, then try to remember the winner or plot from the last season.
The latest program and I think a nation’s favorite is The Great British Back Off which started last night. At last, we have a weekly goal, sofa, and a cuppa and the chores out the way by 8 pm as bums need to be on the sofa ready.
It feels to be the epitome of us being British. Cakes, bakes and all things sweet and elegant with of course the customer bread squeezed in too. All baked in good spirits and ever so politely. We start with a full house of contenders which we will oh and aw over through the following weeks. I am a new convert to being a big fan. Never really bothered in the beginning years but last few years I have looked forward to the series. I sit there rather judgmental on 24 matching crips biscuits when I have perfected the art of burning water.
There must also be a surge of sales in bunting departments up and down the nation. The set is my favorite and if I could have a GBBO kitchen even I would be up for the odd spell of baking. Currently, I have my eye on a pink food mixer as I am fairly certain having one of these on my kitchen worktop would make me a better baker. My children might stand a chance of having cake in the house.
As GBBO quietly takes us through August and September we then have Strictly Come Dancing dancing us through September to December. I have to admit I am not a fan. I can’t really even put my finger on why I just turn over. I’m not racing to see the lineup or watch it. Sorry SCD I am sure it’s not personal.
But then there is the show that takes us to the Christmas Tree, well it does in our house, I’m A Celebrity. Bounces onto our screens in November and crowns the winner in the first week of December. Perfectly lining us up nicely for putting the tree up and numerous conversations about when did we put the tree up last year. Note to self must get new decs ordered, Lions home has that covered I think this year.
So whilst August has felt like the longest month ever and far longer than January to July felt like altogether, September to December is going to rush by in a flurry of cakes, cha cha chas and Bush Tucker Trials. Oh, happy days.
