If there’s one thing that kids will love this summer, it’s a trip to the theme park. Not only will they have the opportunity to spend some quality, fun-filled time with their parents, but they’ll be able to spend it swooshing through the air at high speed on white knuckle coasters and high octane rides. However, it’s not always a case of packing everyone into the car and heading off for the nearest theme park. Some people aren’t lucky enough to live within driving distance of a world class theme park such as Alton Towers or Thorpe Park and, when this is the case, the idea of driving miles upon miles to get there is often a daunting one.
Instead, consider staying overnight in a nearby hotel, so that you can either have a decent sleep before heading back home, or you could even make the most out of your visit and head for your chosen theme park for a second day. For whatever reason, Travelodge’s hotels can be found all over the country which will provide you with a comfortable, cosy family room at an affordable price.
Theme park visits can be expensive, but don’t worry, there are plenty of ways in which you can make it that little bit cheaper and more worthwhile. If you’re heading for a theme park with the kids this summer, check out some of these top tips before you go so that you can make the most out of your visit.
Stay Overnight
Nowadays, theme parks are more like resorts, with hotels situated on site to make it as easy as possible for weary families. However, do bear in mind the cost. Hotels such as the one located within the Alton Towers resort can hike up the prices during the peak season, and if you don’t book in advance, it could end up costing a fortune.
Instead, weigh up the cost of staying in one of Travelodge’s hotels in Birmingham or a similar, nearby city; add this to the cost of the petrol that you’d use to get to and from the park and, if it is cheaper than the resort hotel, do that instead. Either way, staying overnight won’t just mean that you’re well-rested for the return home but, if you do choose to make the most out of your visit and do the park again the following day, you’re not too far away.
Book Online
If you book your theme park tickets online, you can save a considerable amount. While the peak season is upon us, which means more expensive tickets, you can still save yourself a pretty penny by taking advantage of the online offers.
For example, you can book tickets in advance through the Thorpe Park website and you’d be paying as little as £25.99 for a single day ticket, in comparison to £49.99 on the day. It’s a no brainer, especially when there’s a few of you going.
Use Coupons
Collect coupons where possible – from Kellogg’s cereal boxes or newspapers, for example – or trade in your Tesco Clubcard points. There are plenty of ways in which you can get to your chosen theme park more affordably.
Fast Track
If your budget allows, definitely invest in fast track tickets – especially if there are certain rides that you don’t want to miss. You can beat the queues (which can be epic on busy days) and head straight to the front of the line.
The best tip of all is this though: have fun! Let your hair down and be a big kid for the day – you won’t regret it and you’ll be left with fun-filled, thrilling family memories to share!
