I know I declared last year that I am most defiantly a Christmas Tree snob, well I think I can add to that this year as I think I am the ‘whole Christmas thing’ snob now. As I walk to and fro the shops and work I recoil in horror at decorations that just look someone icked up all the decorations. There is no other way to describe it. I am past the age where my children make cute decorations or strange wall hangings that they then bring home from school to adorned my tree and walls. So I don’t have to pretend anymore. I am always wary of lights and decorations on the outside of the house but some can manage to force me into a run as I try to get away from the garish non Christmassy look.
To me when you look at a Christmas tree all decorated it should make you smile and if you let out a little ahh that’s good too. Not an AGGGHhh OMG too much tinsel kind of agghhhh. Christmas lights should twinkle and make you think magical things not neon blue flashings that give you vision sickness.
Why do we do it? What makes us think that the more lights and tinsel you throw (quiet literally I think too) at something the more Christmassy it looks? Where’s the magical look as neon blue icicles flash their little hearts out like they are in a rave competition? Icicles are not blue, nor do they flash. The glisten or twinkle as far as I can remember.
Long gone seem the days when everyone placed their tree in the window to light up the street. Now were too scared everyone can see in so keep it in a corner with the curtains firmly shut.
As my children grow from teens to young adults I know I no longer have the Christmas magic. But it’s so sad to see that the rest of the world seems to be losing it Christmas magic too. I want the magic back not this cold materialistic Christmas we seem to be doing.
I’ve added a picture of my tree, please add your posts, show me your magic, show me your trees and decorations please.
