You know the competitions which flash up occasionally during programmes like This Morning and The One Show – the ones involving tax free cash and usually a BMW X5. Do people actually win them and is there any point entering? Also what about game shows and the prizes that they offer? Any direct way to actually win some cash?
The current competitions up for grabs on This Morning include one with £50,000 and £17,000 worth of gifts. They also have a prize which includes twenty runner up prizes of £500. It would be interesting to know what percentage of viewers walk away with some winnings! The most publicly aware competition is probably the ‘Peoples Post Code Lottery’ – for £10 a month a street is selected and if you own a ticket in that address then you win. It’s a lesser known competition than the National Lottery but seems the chances of winning seem far more likely.
The National Lottery has come under fire recently for doubling the entry cost from £1 to £2 and mixing up the odds of winning both the large and smaller prizes. What the Post Code lottery does well is communicate the fact that people literally in your town or even street can and do win. The National Lottery seem to promote the idea of a beach and cocktail lifestyle but the Post Code Lottery seem to convey that normal people can win who would rather win a smaller amount.
Away from the mainstream shows on terrestrial TV there are always prizes to be won with the Gameshows and/or their associated links. Noel Edmonds Deal or No Deal offers bingo games based on the show, this means you can experience winning some dough while also avoiding meeting Noel Edmonds.
Even Coral, one of the UK’s leading bookmakers has joined the fun with noel as contestants try and convince us they can use mind control to eliminate the 50p box.
There are so many daytime TV shows now and these have varied from the sublime to the ridiculous, the ridiculous being ‘Tipping Point’ which is a glorified 2p machine you find in seaside resorts.
So as well as looking for the latest odds, news, games and opinion at coral are there any further ways to make some money? Why not shortcut the competitions or increase your chances by actually physically being on a TV show! You can apply direct to Sky, BBC and ITV but there also a website called Beonscreen which collates all the shows so you can decide which one to enter, there is also a website called The Prize Finder which also gathers together competitions. There are even full time competition enterers who have decided to give up their pursuits in employment for all day entries to competitions.
So you can win prizes through TV competitions as well as actually applying direct to be on the box – you could also grab your 15 minutes of fame. Maybe you could bring someone who could cough to the correct answers like the infamous coughing edition of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ – the chances of success will never be guaranteed but the more you enter perhaps you are more likely to win!
