First of, just in case your wondering, a side hustle is a way of (hopefully) earning extra money. It’s something you can do on the side without quitting your day job. It’s something you can fit in around children and your work and the chance to pay off a debt, save for something or buy treats. It’s also a good way to test the waters on an idea to see if your side hustle could one day replace your day job.
The list of things you can do as a side hustle is probably endless but you can narrow it down a lot. What skills do you have? What are you interested in? What can you physically fit in around your children, job, and your own circumstances? Do you have any funds to start you off ( don’t worry if you haven’t there are lots that don’t need money to start with)?
Hopefully, this list will spark some ideas for you. I’ve tried to focus on hustles that are doable with children, limited start-up funds and don’t require hundreds of hours a week. I’ve also kept it short and sweet so as not to overwhelm you.
Mobile Laundry Service – Before you shudder at the idea of washing someone else’s undies think on it from a different view. Do you love getting all those creases out of clothes; in short love to iron? I know there are lots of you who do and just as much if not more who hate it with a passion. They and those who don’t have the time to iron will quite happily pay someone else to do it all. You can even iron your little heart out whilst watching TV after the children have gone to bed.
Jewellery Making – Have a passion or creative flair for making things like jewellery? It’s something you can do in your spare time, doesn’t take up a huge amount of space or money to start and could earn you a tidy penny on the side. It’s famously made three teenage entrepreneurs rather well off too. Have a look at the likes of Etsy and Folkys.
Build A Niche Website – This one does have a small outlay with domains, hosting and templates and not an overnight thing either. But if you have a passion or a hobby and prepared to put in a fair few hours you could build a niche site and monetize it.
Fill Out Online Surveys – ok this one might not be up there on the most exciting but online surveys do pay out. But it does show that even if you think you have no skills or hobbies there is a way to earn extra money after the children bedtime.
Data Analysis – love numbers but never took it as a career? There are loads of companies that hire people to analyze data for them. Check out Upwork and Digiserved which are brilliant sites for freelancers looking for extra work.
Or Maybe Your A Wordy? – Same as Data Analysis there is always work for those with a love of words. Freelance editing and proofreading pay a decent hourly wage and again can be done after the little one’s bedtime. Upwork is the best site to check out.
Fiverr Gigs – Want to go freelance but scared stiff? Try Fiverr . You can do Fiverr Gigs on just about every subject under the sun. You can go at your pace and increase the number of gigs you offer as you gain confidence.
Ebay Sales – Fed up with so much clutter? Sell it. Don’t forget to factor in the fees from eBay and Paypal though.
Blogging – Blogging is really just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many ways you can earn from blogging about so many different topics that people huge sites about it. Start with this one first Just a Girl and Her Blog
Social Media Manager – If you have a love of social media then why not earn from it too. Lots of companies will lout source this part of their work and you can pick up opportunities at Flexjobs and Career builder.
Virtual Assistant – If you have a passion for being organized you could go far as a virtual assistant. Elance, Indeed, and Upwork are the sites to check out and you can work from anywhere. BUT if you really want to take it to the next level and create a business out of it, you can’t go far wrong then doing the Rockin Virtual Assistant Course
Online Coaching – if you have a skill you can teach a skill. An online coaching service is becoming big business and very on trend.
