Pests are a pain, aren’t they? They come into your home and make it theirs without even asking your permission. And do you want them there? No. But, how do you get rid of them?
There is nothing worse than discovering your unwanted ‘house guests’ but, on top of that, you then have no choice but to live alongside them before you can work out an effective way to evict them. These pests either come in large numbers or are sneaky little critters, making catching them incredibly difficult.
This won’t only cause you stress and hygiene issues, but they can cause a significant amount of damage to your property as well.
So, with all that in mind, whether you have mice running amok or an infestation of ants, here are some ways you can get rid of them.
Mice
There are a few ways you can get rid of mice – you don’t necessarily have to set up a snap trap with a tempting slice of cheese. But, traps are a common way to get rid of them and although snap and electronic traps are an option, there are also much more humane ways. A live trap, which is easy to set and bait, can catch around 30 mice at once. These also mean that you don’t ever have to see or touch them and you can get rid of them without having to kill them. Check out Victor Pest if you would like to find out more about these.
Rats
The traps will also work for rats, but another option you have is to use a sonic repellent. This will keep rats out before they even try and enter your home. They emit high frequency sound waves that repel rodents – but is inaudible to people and non-rodents. This is safer than poison, kinder than a trap and you shouldn’t have to ever see or deal with them – dead or alive.
For mice and rats, you can deter them by simply soaking cotton wall balls in peppermint oil and placing them round the home, or if you have a cat, place the litter tray in the area they have (or could) appear. If you don’t have a cat you may want to consider getting one – because the smell of their urine alone can scare mice and rats off.
Flies
If you have flies buzzing around your home then you can use fly traps to catch them – some of which come with bait. Spreading these around the home will give you a better chance of catching them all.
Bed Bugs
It can be incredibly difficult to get rid of bed bugs by yourself – so you may want to contact your local council or pest control firm. If you do want to try and get rid of them yourself then start by washing infested bedding and clothes at 60C and use a vacuum cleaner in and around the infested area.
Wasps
To avoid wasps coming into your home in the first place, you could hang a false nest outside your home. This often works because wasps don’t tend to build their nest next to another one.
Fleas
If you have fleas in your home, then try sprinkling salt on the carpet. This will dry them out and then you simply need to hoover them up.
Insects
You could try a DIY Insect Spray – this all-purpose bug control combines the repellent effects of garlic, onion and hot pepper with the insecticidal properties of soap.
If you still don’t feel comfortable dealing with these pests yourself, then call in the experts and let them deal with it for you.
