You may have noticed that I have been taking a good, long look at my life in order to change some things for the better. It’s going quite well, new bed and all. So, with Christmas approaching and ultimately the new year, I have begun to think about 2018 and ways in which I can get the year off to a flying start. Many things have been popping into my head, but the one thing that has remained there is the question of how I can be more organised – the solution, or at least part of it? A new diary!
A Page a Day
Ok, so using my mobile phone and computer’s calendar is great for dates and reminders, quite frankly I’m not sure what I’d do without this, but it’s just not the same as having a diary. There is something permanent, meaningful and just beautiful about a diary. A page a day diary is what I am looking to get and I am hoping that instead of simply making a note of things such as peoples birthdays, I can put in more detailed entries.
For example, I’m big on lists and having a list of potential gifts that I can buy as birthday presents will, I hope, make my life a little easier. I can add to the list whenever I see or think of something and then when the time is right, select the best thing off the list and buy it. Must remember to make a note of where I saw it and its price. Oh, and then tick that task off my current “to do” list.
Light Bulb Moments
I’m also hoping that my diary will help me in the work department, especially when it comes to blogging. Light bulb moments can happen anytime, anywhere and keeping my diary close at hand will allow me to get my ideas down on paper as and when they happen, and it isn’t just notes that I’m hoping to use it for.
Cutting out pictures from magazines, newspapers or even photographs I have taken myself will all be getting diarised, to energize and inspire me- to be creative. I guess a mini scrapbook kind of idea is what I am thinking.
Creative Spark
Being creative is something I really enjoy and having a diary will give me the opportunity to express myself a little more and a little more often. Maybe it is the organic nature of a diary that I find appealing, putting pen to paper and making an indelible mark on its pages. Being creative, using a computer is great, but there is something about not being able to hit the backspace button, to control Z something or to erase it. A diary entry is permanent, and I think there is something very special about that – warts and all as it were.
A Time to Reflect
A romantic notion it may be, but one of the other things I’m hoping to do with the diary is use it as a way to look back on this time in my life and reflect. As I am working so hard to make positive changes, I think that reflecting on this time will be a really important part of the process, gauge my progress and maybe identify things that I could have done better. Self-improvement, I guess, is an ongoing process and not just a phase and reflecting I’m sure will be positive.
