Whether you’re a working mother, a single mum or a stay-at-home parent, it can sometimes feel like there’s no time left in the day. Between earning enough cash to keep the family afloat, making packed lunches and just being there as an emotional support provider for your kids, it can be draining. You deserve to build a little bit of fun into your week and spend some time relaxing – and it’s good for your family, too, as it means you’ll be rejuvenated. Here are some top ways to have some fun as a mum.
Time with friends
Hanging out with friends is a great way to get some downtime in if you’re starting to feel like the hamster wheel of motherhood is spinning a little too fast. Getting your mates together for a cinema trip, spa day or even a hike in the countryside could be just what you need. And if there are some other mums in the group, you might find that an away day is a great chance to swap tips on how to make life that little bit easier.
Relax on the web
But there are a whole host of reasons why spending time with friends might not be the best way for you to get your relaxation time-sorted. Perhaps your pals all live away, or maybe you prefer to spend time by yourself rather than in large groups of people. If you’d prefer to stay home or relax by yourself in a coffee shop during your precious spare time, then, why not invest in a Kindle or an e-reader? There are all sorts of genres of e-book available, including romance, crime, and non-fiction – and with many e-books being available at a cheap price, your new book habit needn’t put too much of a strain on the family budget.
And if you want to add an injection of extra excitement, why not opt to play a bingo game using your tablet or laptop? Having a flutter doesn’t require a large upfront investment: it’s possible to enjoy a round or two without breaking the bank. And you never know: you might win big and have enough to take the kids away for a break, too.
Simple pleasures
Sometimes, though, all you want to do is crash out away from screens, people or even books. If so, schedule some time in the week to relax in a hot bubble bath with a mug of hot chocolate – or even a cheeky glass of prosecco! You can always ask your partner, parents or neighbours to watch the kids for an hour and return the favor to them another time.
Being a mum comes with a whole host of responsibilities – and nobody said it was going to be easy! But if you’re fretting about the absence of fun in your life, the time to change is now. Whether you get your friends together, try out some online gaming or simply schedule in an hour of me time, it’s a great way to recharge your batteries and be the best mum you can be.
