Thank goodness for Linkedin, it was merrily letting me know a few people had liked my work anniversary this week. Odd I thought as I couldn't think what anniversary it was. On further investigation I found its 7 years since I started Confessions of a Single Mum. Wow 7 years of me on my soap box about life as a single parent. So what's happened in those 7 years? Well according to the clever little analytic programme, which I added a year into having Confessions ( yes I know should have added ... VIEW POST

3 TRUTHS ABOUT BEING A SINGLE PARENT
Unless you have been blessed with a money tree or managed to climb the career ladder and still clinging on in there, as a single parent you will probably be on benefits. You also could be on them for a long time too. In reality the Government, anyone and everyone, oh and you probably don't want to be on them. But we live in an age that it costs more to live than the average person can earn so until someone does something about that bit you might have to get used to it. It won't be pretty. It's ... First Trip Away
In the real world us single parents don't always have enough money. Tabloids may tantalize you with oddly angled photographs and juicy articles on single parents having trips abroad, mega size tvs and every mod con going all paid by their benefits cheque each week. But realistically how they manage to do this I really don't know. As a single parent for over 14 years, I have never been able to provide my children with the best of everything. they have never gone without clothes, food or love ... VIEW POST
Work Harder to be Worse Off – Summer Budget
So they sneaked in another budget because...well they could. You will know I am not into politics and all that jazz, let alone understand it. I just know it rather seems to me that unless you were either born into money, could go onto further education ( and get one of those super duper high paying jobs that everyone else is after) or have won the lottery...life will be hard. Even harder if your not the typical 2.4 children, two parent family. Majority of single parents will probably never earn ... VIEW POST
Its all about manners – My Mother Told Me
My dear old mum did get mentioned on here quite a bit before she passed away recently. One of the bits of advice I've been told many times in the last week is to keep her memory alive . So just like Dad, who is doing this by talking to her photo, I shall continue to waffle on about her in things like 'My Mother Told Me' posts. The stuff our mothers tell us is invaluable advice and info you don't get anywhere else. Floating around on the old Internet is a post about a shop assistant at a ... VIEW POST
Just Do It
Death....there I've said it. A word no one likes to say, or hear and everyone tries to avoid saying. Its such a final sort of word. Its bleak and black and not a word you would say with a smile on their face. 2 weeks ago I had a moment that now makes sense, but at the time was out of character for me. A friend posted on facebook about the sponsored run she and her daughter are doing together very soon for cancer research. Actually I will pause a moment so you can run over and have a look at ...
