It’s a sad but also happy day in our house, actually garden, today. Ten years ago, when I was still married, we bought our son a slide. Not any old slide but one that would last awhile. Little did I realise that many years later I would be trying to convince my son it was time the slide moved on. This week the slide is going and it has been a long process to convince him he no longer needed a huge great big blue slide in the garden. ... VIEW POST

Me in Cycling Shorts in Public
Divorcing a mountain bike enthusiast 10 years ago I thought I was able to hang up cycling shorts for good. Seems this isn’t so, when a kind friend offered me their old bike in ear shot of my daughter. To my surprise she got all enthusiastic and excited about her and I on bike ride together. I don’t share her love of horses so I did think it could provide a nice summery thing to do together, but in my head all I could think of was the paid and the wobbling. The 6 weeks of the year when it is guaranteed to rain 24/7. The 6 weeks that can turn any sane adult into a nervous wreck. One of my reasons for going self employed was to spend summer holidays with the ... VIEW POST
This Week I Learnt About Fruit Trees
Feeling rather smug with my veg growing efforts, I have decided its time to try a few new things. One of the big bonuses of growing my own veg is that the kids have started eating more vegetables. Partly because they do taste better but also the fact they picked the peas or pulled the carrots. So my next task is to get more fruit into them. The strawberries are proving a success. Even my son who declared he hates strawberries has been spotted munching them in the garden. ... VIEW POST
Having Parents That Are Separated
A few weeks ago my 14 year old daughter wrote me a note. I was so touched it made it on to Confessions of a Single Mum. You can read her note here. I had her permission to post it up and I think she got the bug as she asked if she could write something for the my site. I gave her a few suggests and she decided on writing what it is like having parents that are separated. ... VIEW POST
