Car safety should be an integral part of your life if you drive a car on a daily basis. Automobile accidents are slowly becoming one of the leading causes of injury and death, and more often than not, this is due to human error.
Until a certain age, our little ones are particularly susceptible to the perils of a car crash, primarily because how unoptimized a car’s safety features are when it comes to children. A conventional seatbelt is inefficient at stabilizing a child or an infant’s small frame, because they’re designed to keep adults safe.
Enter the child car seat – an additional means of safety that can mean the difference between a few small insignificant bruises and life-altering neck injury. If you know how to use it right, a child’s car seat can be an incredible asset for a responsible parent. The car seat uses three distinct principles:
1) A five-point harness that stabilizes your child’s frame more efficiently than a seatbelt.
2) The cushions on the side of the seat that are tasked with absorbing impact.
3) A tether that stabilizes the seat and keeps it from moving.
Working in tandem, these three mechanisms make sure that your child is as protected as they can be while on the road with you. For more detailed information about how a child’s car seat works, please refer to the infographic below from Parenting Pod.
