When you become a parent you might think it’s your duty to follow in the footsteps of other families by booking a few days away in an average hotel where a greasy burger or an evening of karaoke is considered top-notch. While there’s nothing wrong with comfort food or a good sing-song now and again, breaking away from the ‘norm’ and doing something special can be so much more exciting.
Of course, you might be nervous about travelling with kids but with a wide range of family-friendly holidays available from companies like Tots Too, you’re sure to feel right at home no matter where you are in the world. With this in mind, here’s how to book a different, unique and memorable break away with your entire brood.
Choose somewhere you’ve never been before
If you’ve been going to the same resort for years, perhaps it’s time to visit somewhere you’ve never been before. Not only will this spice up your holiday experience it’ll help you and your family learn more about the world which in itself is a great opportunity. And don’t worry about venturing further afield, as wherever you go you’re sure to find a resort with all the amenities you need to enjoy your holiday be it a baby cot or a babysitting service. With this in mind you might decide to make the most of the great pound to Euro exchange rate by heading to the Eurozone or bite the bullet and head off to Africa or Asia – the world is your oyster.
Step out of your comfort zone and try new things
Once you know where you want to go and have made things real by booking flights and accommodation, why not do some research and come up with a list of things you want to do during your time away? If possible, avoid activities you can do at home and try stepping out of your comfort zone by trying new things be it jungle trekking in Thailand or riding a camel through the sand dunes of Dubai. These things might sound crazy while you’re sitting on your sofa at home but you could be doing them in no time if you put your mind to it. What’s more, many travel companies also help to arrange group events for all ages, so it might be worth enquiring about some of these before you leave.
Download one of the many bucket list applications for smartphone and tablets and put together a list of things you want to achieve during your trip away. Be as adventurous as you can and don’t forget to tick them off as you go.
Mix fun times with educational activities
When on holiday it can be easy to spend the whole time swimming in the sea or pool and playing on the sand. This is all well and good but if you want to do something a little bit different that’ll stick in your memory for years to come try introducing educational activities too and making family days out as interesting as possible. Head to the castles of London, for instance, and you could dress your little ones up as a king or queen to help them get in the mood. Similarly if you’re going to Cyprus there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t put together a book full of things your children must find (based on your research) and head off on a car treasure hunt.
Last of all, just remember all your important documents! This includes the obvious passports, insurance, this new PAN card and booking confirmations.
This year, leave ‘average’ at home and do things you could have only dreamed of in the past.
