Keeping kids active on a rainy day can be anything but easy for teachers, so we have put together some fun activities that can be enjoyed indoors, whatever the weather.
Make profile posters
Making their own profile posters is a particularly great idea for kids. Get them to write about or paint some of their favourite hobbies, their favourite colour, or their favourite food. This little project is suitable for almost all ages and you can get everyone involved. The best thing is that you don’t even need to prepare anything. All you need for this is some paper, some pens and maybe some paints.
Mandalas
Print out some black and white copies of mandalas and let the kids colour them in however they like. This is a fun and easy activity that only requires minimum preparation. The kids will love it and even adults still enjoy the calming hobby.
Board games
Most kids love games, so why not bring in some board games on a rainy day? Online you will find several fun and entertaining games such as Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and Connect 4. You’ll need to make sure that you’re bringing enough games so that everyone can play.
The local library or a charity shop might also be good places to check for games. Kids up to the age of eight years old will probably love the idea. Alternately if you have the space then why not bring the beach indoors with some sand and water from www.hope-education.co.uk.
Make owl masks
Print out some owl mask templates and bring them into the classroom. Let the kids decorate them with colours, glitter, paper, and whatever else they want. It’ll keep them busy for half an hour and at the end, you can take a picture of everybody all dressed up and put it up on the classroom wall. That way you’ll all have a fun memory to treasure.
Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean that you’ll have a stressful half an hour with 30 excitable kids ahead of you; there are plenty of fun and educating ways in which you can entertain the children and maybe even still teach them a thing or two!
