Today I was supposed to be telling you about ow I just done a week of 10,000 steps a day but alas I didn’t quiet make it. It was going so well too. It started back on my birthday when I treated myself to a Fitbit. A whowhatnow? A Fitbit is a range of trackers and tools to help people get a bit fitter. They are a bit more expensive than some step counters but my thinking is that it makes me a bit more determined so not to waste money. Plus they very cleverly sync with the app on my phone and also the desktop programme too.
The basic idea is to get you to do at least 10,000 steps a day. Easy I thought, I am sure with a shift in the corner shop I easily do 10,000 steps or at least very close to it. First day I wore it was my birthday and I made sure it was on from the moment I got up till I went to bed. I didn’t do any extra walking as I wanted to so what a typical day was. I did my shift in the shop and skipped home ( slight exaggeration) confident in doing enough steps. I think I actually did a grand total of about 3,000 steps!!
Turns out 10,000 steps is roughly 5 miles and in my average day I don’t do 5 miles. For the first week I walked everywhere. I also worked out how many steps there is in a lap of the store for when its quiet I can squeeze in a few more steps. Most days I was just about getting close to the 10,000 but short of walking around the block at midnight, if it got to bedtime I hadn’t walked enough I didn’t hit my mark.
Then I had an idea, did a quick google which confirmed it was others fitbit-ers where doing too. I dragged the bone shaker of an exercise bike out of the garage and jumped on that. Did have to re-google how to record the steps but soon got under way again ( pop the fitbit in your sock or on your shoe). Few days in and I was soon looking for a new exercise bike. New one purchased and set up in my room and I am one happy bunny.
Now I try and walk as much as I can in the daytime and then in the evening instead of just sitting watching tv I pedal away too. I am averaging about 10 miles a day on the bike which is on top of any walking I manage to do too. Yesterday would have been the completion of my first whole week of hitting the 10,000 mark but I missed out as I woke up with a streaming cold. With having M.E it does seem to make coughs and colds 10 times worse and I know it would have been impossible and also very stupid to try and do my 10,000 whilst all snotty and horrible. So now I am on day two of snot, the voice has gone and I hurt all over. Bits of me hurt that I never knew could. Even blinking is painful. I am tucked up in bed and pinning for my bike ride. I have at last got bitten by the fitness bug. I just hope I stay bitten longer than my cold lasts.
…ohh oh oh ..forgot to ask ‘what you think of the new them?’ as I am stuck in bed it did mean I had the time to have a tinker with a new logo and theme.
