When our phone breaks we not only lose our means of making a call or text on-the-go, but we also can’t check Facebook or Twitter, listen to music, search the web, receive e-mails… the list is endless. It feels that our whole lives are stored on our phones these days and when something goes wrong we are completely lost without them.
Not only does it take time to get it fixed, it could also be extremely costly and you will instantly regret not taking out that phone insurance. But before you panic, it may not be as bad as you think!
There are often ways we can fix our phones ourselves. So, here are some tips that will have you back in the virtual world in no time.
Be Careful: The most important tip for fixing a broken phone yourself is to be careful. It is so easy to get frustrated with it and make it worse. It could be simpler than you think; a frozen iPhone screen can be fixed by simply holding down the power and home button at the same time until it restarts. However, if getting stuck on an app has made you throw it against a wall, smashing the screen as a result, it may not be quite so easy to fix.
Check You Tube: The Internet is full of help for everything and anything you could ever need. Written instructions are helpful but sometimes hard to follow and understand. Thanks to You Tube you can now watch step-by-step video tutorials that will show you how to fix your phone.
Quick Fix: There are ways to fix your broken phone that may sound quite bizarre but have been tried and tested and known to work. Such as toothpaste or baking soda for smaller scratches and marks on the screen, or putting a water damaged phone into a rice container.
DIY Replacements: If you want a quick fix for your phone that doesn’t involve toothpaste there are a few other things you could try yourself. You can go online and buy kits and new parts for most pieces of your phone and then do it yourself. Screens, internal and external speakers, batteries and accessories can all be purchased for a DIY replacement.
Liquid Damage: Damaged caused by liquid can be harder to fix. It could be that you can simply replace the part (as above) however, a water damaged phone can also cause power damage. If this appears to be the issue, perhaps your phone won’t charge, isn’t turning on, or overheating, then you can check to see if water damage is the cause. If the LDI (Liquid Damage Indicator) usually located on or near the battery is pink or red instead of white, this indicates liquid or moisture within the phone. In this case you can try replacing the motherboard or charging port.
