We are in winter here at the moment. Winter here is rather soggy to say the least, but then our summers are too. We seem to just get either warm rain or slightly colder rain, that’s our seasons. Having lots of rain means finding things to do has to be weather flexible.
Its ok for me as I am happy to curl up with a book, film or play a session online bingo on the laptop or even do all three.
With children its not so easy. There are the play centres that have started to pop up leaving you to either join in or if you have older children who can keep an eye on the younger ones allowing the mums to have an quick get together.
If possible keep empty boxes, fancy wrappings and anything else that is eye catching so that you start a craft box. Kids paints, glue and other bits can be found in the likes of Wilkios or The Works for only a few pounds. When the rain sets in get the craft box out and let their imaginations run wild. If you have slightly older children who may think that childish you could gear it towards making puppets and create a play or space rockets and re-enact Star Wars.
One of the activities I use to love was creating my own comic book. Mum would give me some subjects and ideas and I would create a stick person comic book.
For younger children you could read a story book with them and then get them to draw a picture about the story.
Just about every child loves to dress up. Save items you were going to send to the recycle bin so that whenever a rainy day happens they can play dress up. Don’t forget accessories like handbags, hats and tiaras. You don’t have an old tiara ? Another rainy day activity. Card to go around the head to make the base shape. Pasta ( uncooked), glue, paint and of course copious amounts of glitter. Viola one tiara. Got pasta left over string it on long strings so that every princess has their long strands of dress up pearls.
